Earlier today, numerous media outlets reported that Alex Kemp, a freshman with Williams' distance program, has tragically passed away. He was 19 years old.
Earlier this week, Kemp was on a skiing trip at Jiminy Peak Resort in Massachusetts. On Monday, while on one of the ski trails, Kemp crashed, sustaining what is being described as "severe head trauma." Kemp was then rushed to the hospital where he passed on Tuesday.
In a statement from Julia Sabourin, a spokesperson from the District Attorney's office, "There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident."
Kemp was one of Division Three's top rookies this past fall. Back in November, the Williams runner emerged as the top freshman at the NCAA D3 XC Championships. He placed 63rd on that stage, helping the Ephs finish 10th overall in the team standings. At the New Balance Early Bird Invite back in December, Kemp ran a 5000-meter personal best of 14:40.
Prior to joining the Williams College men, Kemp was a key name for Christian Brothers Academy, a powerhouse high school program in New Jersey. While at CBA, Kemp was the Non-Public NJ "A" state champion over 3200 meters. He also contributed to the Colts' national record streak of dual meet wins in cross country.
