Earlier today, The Stride Report received a tip that UCLA distance coach, Sean Brosnan, was no longer with the Bruins. TSR later confirmed that rumor from one source. Brosnan eventually went to Instagram Live and detailed his recent departure on Sunday evening.
In that Instagram Live video, Brosnan explained that his contract with UCLA "was not renewed" as the school, "Didn't like the way how [he] led the team." He also made it clear on numerous occasions that there was, "No NCAA violation" and that any rumor of such news was "fake."
Upon joining the soon-to-be BIG 10 program, Brosnan made an instant impact at UCLA, immediately recruiting the likes of Dalia Frias (via Duke), Sam McDonnell (via Alabama) and Mia Barnett (via Virginia).
The UCLA women, led by Mia Barnett this past winter, finished 4th overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the DMR. On the men's side, the Bruins were headlined by top distance talents such as Ronan McMahon-Staggs and Peter Herold.
Prior to joining the UCLA men and women in the summer of 2022, Brosnan coached Newbury Park High School. During his time there, the Panthers assembled one of the greatest boy's high school cross country teams ever. The girl's team also emerged as one of the more nationally competitive distance programs in the nation.
Recent names such as Nico Young, Leo Young, Lex Young, Colin Sahlman, Aaron Sahlman, Fiona Hawkins and Sam McDonnell are all former prep stars who developed under Brosnan at Newbury Park.
