On June 30th, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that TCU head coach Darryl Anderson, who was with the Horned Frogs for 18 years, will not be returning. The departure comes unexpectedly and without reason from the Texas Christian Athletic Department despite positive parting sentiments from Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati.
Meanwhile, Anderson is quoted as saying "I guess they wanted to have a new voice".
“Not many coaches stay at places for as long as I’ve been at TCU so I’m appreciative of that. I have nothing bad to say. Just figuring out what I’m doing next.”
Anderson joins Mike Turk, Robert Johnson and Beth Alford-Sullivan as long-time coaching veterans who have been unexpectedly ousted from their respective programs, some more surprisingly than others.
Anderson, who is 60 years old, will continue to coach professional sprinter Ronnie Baker.
TCU's men's and women's track and field teams both finished last at the 2022 BIG 12 Outdoor Championships. At the 2022 BIG 12 Indoor Championships, the men finished last and the women finished second-to-last.
The Horned Frogs have often found themselves at the very bottom of the BIG 12 standings in championship meets over the last few years, although Anderson is responsible for winning three team titles at past conference championships.
