On Thursday, Circle of Sport and InsideSport (the latter being a New Delhi-based news outlet), reported that Florida mile star Parvej Khan has allegedly tested positive for Erythropoietin (EPO). No official announcement or update has been made by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) or the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in regards to Khan's current eligibility.
While the NCAA does not directly abide World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rulings, they do have the power to take necessary action if it is found that an athlete used banned substances.
EPO is listed as a banned substance by the NCAA.
As just a freshman, Khan was absolutely brilliant over the 800-meter, 1500-meter and mile distances earlier this year. The Gator ace produced head-turning times of 1:46 (800), 3:36 (1500) and 3:55 (mile), qualifying for the indoor and outdoor national meets. Khan earned a 7th place All-American finish in the mile back in March.
Khan has developed a reputation for his elite turnover and speed, boasting one of the most frightening kicks in the entire NCAA. Deemed as the rising face of track and field in India, Khan won the 1500-meter national title in his home country earlier this year.
Arkansas' Peter Maru, an indoor 5k All-American back in March, was listed as a banned athlete by the AIU earlier this year for an alleged doping violation.
