On Friday, the University of Wisconsin announced that junior Sarah Shulze, a member of the Badger's track and cross country teams, has passed away unexpectedly.
According to a website set up by her parents, sarahshulze.com, Sarah passed on April 13th. Additional details about Sarah can be found in that link.
Shulze was a promising talent for Wisconsin and was recently posting the best marks of her career, earning three collegiate personal bests in three different events this past indoor track season. Shulze occasionally made appearances in Wisconsin's varsity cross country lineup.
A 2019 graduate of Oak Park High School in California, Shulze was also a member of the Student Athlete Council at Wisconsin. Outside of athletics, Sarah also held an internship at the Wisconsin state legislature. According to her family, those experiences, "helped develop her deep love for politics, social causes and women’s rights."
The Shulze family is expected to soon announce a foundation that will further support the causes and interests that were most important to Sarah.
